On Monday September 28th at about 11:30 am, a Mammoth resident suffered major injuries after a vehicle accident near Mojave.

CHP officers report that Bruce Capitain of Mammoth was driving southbound on State Route 14, near Red Rock Canyon, when for an unknown reason, he allowed his vehicle to drift off the roadway to the right. The pickup hit a concrete drainage culvert and overturned.

According to CHP, the vehicle was travelling at about 65-70 miles per hour, and the driver was wearing a seatbelt. What caused the accident remains under investigation, but drinking or drugs are not considered a factor, according to CHP; and there were no mechanical problems with the vehicle.

Capitain was airlifted from the scene to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield with what are listed as major injuries.
