Another death in the Town of Mammoth Lakes. On Saturday, December 27th, a snowmobile operator found the body of 59 year old Geoffrey Michael Carreiro in the parking lot of Shady Rest Campground.

According to Mono County Sheriff’s spokesmen, medical and law enforcement personnel initiated life saving efforts to Carreiro but he was determined to be dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s spokesmen said that Carreiro’s death appears to be accidental, but the exact cause of death is pending additional investigation by the Mono Sheriff’s Department.

Mr. Carreiro was best known for his work with the Forest Service as an Off Highway Vehicle and Over the Snow Vehicle patrolman. He could be seen watching the countryside from a snowmobile or motorcycle. Carreiro had worked many recreation and wilderness jobs over the years.

In another local death case, it was before the holiday that a young man died in Mammoth. 27 year old Dylan Foster was found in bed, not breathing, at a home on Crystal Lane. He was pronounced dead at Mammoth Hospital, and the cause of his death is pending toxicology reports.
