In Town News…The Town will be actively communicating proper cycling etiquette and the rules of the road to both motorists and cyclists when the new “Three Feet for Safety Act” goes into effect September 16, 2014.  Get all the details: click here!

Around Town…Start Labor Day Weekend with a few laughs at the Edison Theatre featuring “Tied up in Knotts!” and stroll through the 45th Labor Day Festival of the Arts and Music at Sam’s Woods site from 10:00 a.m. daily. The 5th annual Mammoth Reggae Festival is at The Village, The annual Tri County Fair returns to Bishop, and on Sunday join the Mammoth Track Club for the 18thannual Mammoth Rock Race starting from Mammoth Creek Park.

Looking ahead…New this year on September 5 is the Prologue Hill Climb Time Trial and on September 6 is the Mammoth Fall Century and Gran Fondo – one of the Top 10 Century Rides. Check out the short movie trailer – pretty spectacular!  Due to the extensive number of riders, area covered and for the safety of the cyclists, specific traffic control measures will be in effect. Click Here for all the traffic changes on September 6, 2014.

Also coming up is Hop ‘n’ Sage from September 5, the 34th Annual Tioga Pass Run is September 7 (and Graniteman…), the newMammoth Rock-N-Rye event is in The Village on September 12 & 13, and the annual Fly Fishing Faire begins September 19.

Recreation NewsFREE admission to the Mammoth RecZone this weekend! Join us this Labor Day Weekend at enjoy skates, blades, boards, nets, hoops and ramps for FREE! Skate rentals are only $2.00 – you can’t beat that for value! HOURS: FRIDAY: 5-10PM / SATURDAY: 3-10PM / SUNDAY: 3-7PM.

Dodgeball is back! Get your team together and sign up for the first games of the fall Dodgeball season beginning September 3. Team fee is only $84 for 6 players. Games will be played every Monday and Wednesday evenings at the Mammoth RecZone.

Lap swimming is offered Monday to Friday from 6:30 – 8:30 a.m. and every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. through September 5 at the Whitmore Pool. Drop-in Tennis Lessons also continue every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at the Community Courts through September 11, and don’t forget drop-in Pickleball every Tuesday afternoon from 4:30 p.m.

On the trails front, Friends of the Inyo invites the public to join them for a family friendly volunteer day at Convict Lake onSaturday, August 30, while the Bodie Hills Conservation Partnership is leading an 8-mile hike on August 30 to the Dry Lakes Plateau.

Town Meetings: The Recreation Commission is meeting on Sept. 9 in Suite Z at 2:00 p.m., and on Sept. 10 the Planning and Economic Development Commission are scheduled to meet in Suite Z at 2:00 p.m.
