ROTARY CLUB OF MAMMOTH LAKES CONTRIBUTES TO MAMMOTH MEDICAL MISSIONS

MAMMOTH LAKES, CA – At the Mammoth Lakes Rotary Club (noon) meeting on Thursday, November 14 the club voted unanimously to contribute $2,500.00 to Mammoth Medical Missions. Rotary Club President, Gary Boyd said, “This is a way for our local club to help directly with an international tragedy and we know that every dollar will be spent wisely.”  The funds will go to replenish the Missions’ supplies and help them be ready for their next international mission.
The sixteen person Mammoth Medical Mission team was headed to Mexico for a scheduled clinic when they diverted to Tanauan, Philippines which was battered by typhoon Haiyan. The team had already performed more than 100 surgeries in the converted town hall in three days and soon had to turn patients away. The makeshift clinic was in an isolated area and hadn’t been resupplied with medicine and equipment and doctors said there appeared to be no concerted aid effort from he government or international organizations.
The team had to return to Mammoth Lakes and should have arrived in time to be back at their day jobs on Monday, November 18. The Mammoth Lakes Rotary Club is one of 34,000 Rotary Clubs worldwide that are part of Rotary International. The mission of Rotary International and its member clubs, is to provide service to others, promote integrity and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.
