71 year old Bruce Beatty, scheduled for trial in Mono County last week, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assault with a deadly weapon before the jury met.
In August of 2007, police arrested Beatty after an argument over a dog at the Sierra Park Villas in Mammoth. At the time of the arrest police reported that Beatty and the victim, a 46 year old Redondo Beach man, got into an argument over the victims dog running loose at the condo complex.
Officers said the argument escalated, and Beatty was alleged to have pulled a folding knife out of his pocket, stabbing the victim in the abdomen. Both men owned condos at the complex.
Deputy District Attorney Todd Graham reports that Beatty pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The defendant also has to pay the victim $25,000 in damages, sell his condo at the Sierra Park Villas, and vacate those premises in thirty days. The agreement by both sides also granted the defendant, Beatty, immunity from a civil lawsuit.
