So, what is the Phantom you might ask? Well, its Bogle Vineyards 2007 Phantom wine, comprising three unique varietals; Petite Sirah (53%), Old Vine Zinfandel (44%) and Old Vine phantomlabelMourvedre (3%). Mourvedre is a grape that’s used a lot in France and Spain. In the glass, this wine is a dark, saturated red. The nose has complex aromas of plum, sweet spice and black pepper. The taste is full bodied, thick and round, with dark fruits of plum and blackberry. It has a spicy, peppery component in the background with a bit of mocha. The finish is lingering with minerals, graphite and spice. This is a very smooth, complex wine. I rate this wine well above average and it gets 4 out of 5 stars.

This full-bodied wine would go good with hearty dishes like beef stew, coq au vin, or like I had, a good old fashioned BBQ steak. It would also be real nice with holiday fair like Prime Rib or Pheasant.

This wine can be purchased at your local wine shop, Manor Market, here in Bishop or directly from Bogle Vineyards via the internet.
