Earlier this year the Mammoth Lakes Police Department recruited volunteers from the community to help offset the loss of seven officers.  A total of nine residents applied and were accepted.  They recently completed 16 hours of training and the first volunteers began helping out on Tuesday, November 19.  Some of the volunteers will be assisting in the police station by handling various administrative and clerical duties.  Others will be working community patrols conducting vacation checks, directing traffic, and being additional eyes and ears.  They will be driving a white pick-up truck that has been labeled “Community Patrol.”

The newest members of the MLPD’s Volunteer Corps are:  Mike Abbot, Romie Cushman, Izzy Goberman, Kelly Hawtrey, Cara Isaac, Chris Klein, Barbara Richter, Don Soucy, and Rhonda Starr.
