Mmmm … Mammoth Coffee Roasting Company opens

Mammoth Coffee Roasting to open, underground, July 4th Weekend.

Wholesale and retail coffee sales will support Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra.

(Press release) Mammoth Lakes, CA What do you get when you combine a manufacturing owner, who happens to be a chemist, with an artistic administrative VP, who happens to be his wife…? The Mammoth Coffee Roasting Company of course! Mammoth Coffee Roasting is the brainchild of husband and wife team Steve and Tracie Shatkin, who created the business out of their love for Mammoth Lakes and small batch, artisan roasted coffee.

Tracie and Steve Shatkin

Mammoth Coffee Roasting Company will celebrate its Grand Opening during the July Fourth weekend with street side coffee sales and a float in the annual parade. The couple has created a cozy, art deco, “underground” shop in the basement space of the Sherwin Business Plaza and will specialize in custom roasted coffee for restaurants, hotels, and lodges as well as retail and coffee club customers. Their premier medium dark profile cleverly named, Into the Woods, features a single sourced Brazilian bean that highlights complex chocolate components and a nutty earthy finish. Steve’s chemistry background has helped him analyze the roasting process to be able to remove the bitterness and acidic aftertaste, a characteristic most coffee lovers can do without.

Roasting is not the only passion Steve and Tracie share. The Shatkins pride themselves in giving back to the community, especially one that has been so supportive of their new endeavor. Mammoth Coffee Roasting Company has committed to donate 3% of its net proceeds to Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra (DSES) and the development of the National Wounded Warrior Center.

Kathy Copeland and the Shatkins

Executive Director Kathy Copeland welcomed the Shatkin’s into the DSES community and said she is “looking forward to working with Steve and Tracie and the smell of fresh roasted coffee in the office!”

When asked why they chose Mammoth Lakes to establish a coffee roasting business, Steve replied, “The beans are calling and I must roast!” A fun play referencing John Muir’s famous quote, “The mountains are calling and I must go…”

Mammoth Coffee Roasting is located at 549 Old Mammoth Road, Unit 4, which is under Rudy’s Off the Top barber shop. Currently, custom coffee tastings are available by appointment only for industry professionals, but there are plans to offer coffee roasting workshops for the general public in the near future. The company also offers a monthly Coffee Club where members receive special pricing and direct shipping of freshly roasted coffee.
