The heated rift between the Mono Supervisors and Mono Assessor Jim Lovett has boiled over as the threatened recall effort is now underway.

Officials report that the County Finance Department has calculated that taxing agencies in Mono County stand to lose over $6 million in property taxes if reassessments are not diligently pursued.

Officials say that Representative of the Town, Fire District, Health Care District, Water District, School District, and Library system testified at the recent Supervisors meeting about the impact of this potential financial loss on public services.

Following the hearing, a citizens recall group served the County Assessor with recall papers. The group is seeking signatures to force a recall election.
