Two weeks ago, Mono County Assessor Jody Hennning reported that she believed the long-awaited reassessment of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area would be completed in time to make it on the tax rmono_courthouse.jpegoll which is due at the end of the month.

But on Tuesday, Henning reported to the Board that the work was not going to be done in time. Henning explained in a later interview that there was more work than anticipated which is pushing the completion date back. She also explained that the Mountain will rightfully scrutinize every dollar assessed, and she wanted time to review the assessment herself before submittal.

Henning said that after the work is complete, which will take as long as six weeks, she will file a "roll correction" that will effectively place the reassessment on this year's roll, which means that Mammoth will be receiving tax bills this October. Should the Mountain file appeals, they will still have to pay the current year's assessment, as well as the last few years of escaped assessments.

Henning said that the Mountain is in no way responsible for the delay, and that they have been easy to work with throughout the process.

The Mountain sold to Starwood Capital in 2005, and the Mono County Assessor's office has been working to complete the complex reassessment ever since. With countless properties, ski lifts and other infrastructure, it is admittedly a massive undertaking.

Henning, who has been in office for just over a month, says she continues to be very serious about getting this appraisal done, with or without delays.
