Air service all the time beats part of the time. So, members of the Mono Board of Supervisors talked last week about Mono County and a subsidy for more Horizon air flights in the fall.horizon_airplane

Currently, Horizon Air suspends flights to Mammoth Lakes Airport in October through Thanksgiving. Mono Supervisors pointed to the fact that many locals use and even need the air service as well as visitors. Supervisor Chairman Byng Hunt said that the Board talked about the county possibly kicking in some subsidy money for that time of year. Hunt said it was a consensus that the Board would like to help establish year-round air service.

Horizon Air did cut back some of its service at the beginning of this month, but has kept the popular flights between Los Angeles and San Jose and Mammoth Airport. With the service blip in the fall.

Supervisor Hunt said that Mammoth Mountain and the Town of Mammoth do not subsidize October and November. Hunt emphasized that county residents make use of the air service and because of that, he said, the county wants to be a player.

With the Mono Supervisors on board to help, Hunt said the issue will go back to the Town, the Mountain and Horizon Air for consideration. Hunt said maybe there are other cost-savings means that would help keep service going like use of smaller planes to save money.
