The Town of Mammoth Lakes continues to move ahead with the voter approved plan to allow two medical marijuana cooperatives to open shop. So far it appears that there have been at least five applications for the two slots granted under Measure M.

Voters approved Measure M in June, and now town officials and medical marijuana proponents are working to bring the two medical marijuana cooperatives into official existence.

Under town rules, a person or group that wants to operate a medical marijuana co-op has to submit a plan to the Police Department for review. If the police find that the plan is in compliance with the Town Ordinance, and Proposition 215, then the application goes to the Planning Commission which will decide whether or not to grant the conditional use permit.

So far interest in opening a cooperative is higher than the supply of permits. Acting Mammoth Lakes Police Chief John Mair reports that ten people have picked up applications, and so far, five applications have been turned in for review. Town Manager Rob Clark explained that the deadline for the first round of applications was Friday. These applications are set to be reviewed, and there is no set date as to when the applications will go to the Planning Commission for a decision on who is allowed to open up shop.
