A mixture of excitement and a hint of sadness at the Bishop City Council meeting Monday night, as outgoing council members passed the torch to the newly elected members.
Susan Cullen was re-elected to the council last week. David Stottlemyre and Laura Smith were elected to their first terms on the council. Long time council member Martin Smiley Connolly was not re-elected and Frank Crom decided to retire.
Before the new members were sworn in, Smiley Connolly gave his last official words as the mayor of Bishop. Id like to add that the city is in very good hands, he said.
City Administrator Rick Pucci swore in the newly elected officials, including Treasurer Bob Kimball. The new council took their seats and elected Susan Cullen as the new Mayor of Bishop. Jeff Griffiths was elected to be the mayor pro tem, the person in charge of the meetings when the mayor is out of town, but is also next in line to be mayor after the yearly rotation.
In her first report as the Mayor of Bishop, Susan Cullen welcomed the two new council members, Smith and Stottlemyre, but added that she would miss both Frank Crom and Smiley Connolly.
