The Bishop Volunteers were called out Tuesday morning to respond to a hazardous material spill on Hanby Street. A container in the back of a delivery truck had a faulty valve, leaving a puddle of oil in an empty lot. Drips out of the back of the truck left stripes of oil that lead down Hanby and on towards Wye road.

Bisop Fire Chief Ray Seguine reports that about 290 gallons of motor oil spilled out the back of the truck and over about a mile of road.

Its not always fire calls for the fire fighters. This time the Volunteers poured bags of sand onto the spills. Bishop Public Works hit some of the oil streaks with sand to soak up those spills. The idea is to then to sweep up the oil soaked sand and take it to the landfill.
