The Snowcreek Athletic Club in Mammoth Lakes may survive after all. Officials confirm that club owner, Linda Dempsey, has sent a Letter of Intent to the Town which reportedly proposes to transfer densities from land under the Club to Dempsey land in the Village.

Officials said that this move would also involve re-zoning of the Club to Recreational. This new development may save the Athletic Club, the major recreation facility for the community right now.

Ms. Dempsey had issued letters earlier this summer to say that because of high costs of infrastructure improvements needed and other expenses, the Athletic Club would close at the end of September.

Local residents strongly objected and looked to the Town of Mammoth to do something. Town Council members made it clear that a purchase of the Club was out of the question and that a town-owned recreation facility should be located closer to the schools, such as the currently planned location.

Then, this week's news surfaced that another strategy was underway.

Officials said that this issue is evolving daily in meetings which include Linda Dempsey, Town officials and a potential buyer of the Club.
