Downed power lines sparked a wild fire near Sunny Slopes and Toms Place Friday. High winds appear to be the culprit.

Just before noon Friday Long Valley Fire volunteers and crews from the Forest Service responded to the area near the Owens River Gorge Road for a report of downed power lines and a vegetation fire.

Once on scene, near the summer homes, firefighters found that the downed power line had ignited a single tree and spread to the surrounding area. The fire was officially listed as the Sunny Fire, and despite the high winds Friday afternoon, fire fighters were able to contain the fire to about a half an acre in size at last word.
