In custody since February, former Bishop resident Kevin Michael Fitzsimmons has now pleaded to child molestation charges.

Fitzsimmons had been charged with two counts of lewd acts and two counts of engaging in multiple acts of substantial sexual conduct with a child under the age of fourteen. Four separate victims were alleged in the original charges.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Johnson reports that the plea agreement worked out with Fitzsimmons resulted in one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child, for acts that occurred between October 1, 2000 and October 31, 2001. The female victim was between five and a half and six and a half years old during this time period.

Fitzsimmons is believed to have lived in the Bishop area for many years before he moved to Yuma, Arizona in 2007. When the allegations came to the surface years after they occurred, Bishop Police Detective Dave Jepson and DA Investigator Brian Dressler, went to Yuma, Arizona to arrest Fitzsimmons.

Johnson reports that Fitzsimmons has agreed to 12 years in state prison, starting the day Fitzsimmons is sentenced. Fitzsimmons has been in custody since February, bringing the total length of incarceration to nearly 13 years.
