busThe Eastern Sierra Transit Authority continues to talk with Mammoth Mountain Ski Area about a potential bus service transition, and that issue was scheduled to come up at Friday’s meeting of the ESTA Board of Directors.

For a number of months, representatives from Mammoth Mountain and ESTA have talked about the transit authority taking over the operation of the Red, Blue, Green and Yellow bus lines from November through May.  Through grant money and buses on hand, ESTA has enough vehicles to do the job.

According to the agenda packet on Friday’s meeting, the ESTA Board will see a draft contract for consideration at the end of June.  Officials say that the arrangement would mean a revenue increase of approximately $1.1 million dollars with corresponding operations and administration expenses.

On another Mammoth area transit matter, Jon Kazmierski of the US Forest Service, Mammoth Lakes District, will update the Board on the November wind event that caused downed trees and efforts currently underway toward the 2012 Reds Meadow opening.

The thousands of downed trees initially blocked roads and campgrounds in the Reds Meadow area.  The US Forest Service, Mammoth Mountain and others have been at work to make the area useable.

The ESTA agenda packet says that it is now anticipated that the 2012 Reds Meadow shuttle season will start Saturday, June 16. The ESTA Board meeting was scheduled for 10 am Friday in the City of Bishop Council Chambers.
