Linda Susan Ayers

1951-2013

Linda Susan Ayers was born in Bakersfield, California on January 31, 1951 to Robert and Patsy Slater and passed away on October 25, 2013 at Southern Inyo Hospital.

Linda, her parents and brother moved to Lone Pine, California in 1959.  She graduated from Lone Pine High School in 1969.  After high school she moved to Montana for a short time and then back to Lone Pine.

In 1977 Linda married the love of her life Rod Ayers Sr. and became the step mom to Rod Ayers Jr. and Stacey Ayers-Vanrensselaer.

Linda worked for the Medical Office of Dr. Milton Jones in Lone Pine for over 17 years and then was employed by the Inyo County Sheriff’s office as the Office Manager in Lone Pine for over 20 years.

Linda was active in the community serving on the Mt. Whitney Cemetery District and a member of the ladies auxiliary VFW post 8036 along with many other organizations and activities.

Linda was an avid lover of the outdoors working with and riding her horses, gardening and helping with “her girls” the cattle.  She especially loved “Woddie” her world champion racing mule which she and Rod raised and raced in many states.  Her dogs (that she raised as her children) also held a very special place in her heart.  On weekends when not busy with outdoor activities you could find her in front of the T.V. watching sports and sometime several at the same time along with her old western movies.

Linda is survived by her husband Rod Ayers Sr. of Lone Pine, Rod Ayers Jr. of Lone Pine, Stacey Ayers-Vanrensselaer and husband Jon of Kernville, California, granddaughters Lainee and Cassie Ayers of Paso Robles, California and niece Alisha Slater of Sacramento, California along with many friends she touched with her infectious laugh and beautiful smile.  She is preceded in death by her parents Bob Slater and Patsy Kemp of Lone Pine and her brother Bobbie Slater of Lone Pine.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 12 noon at “The Building” on Main Street, Lone Pine, California.  It will be a potluck and a time to share memories of Linda. In lieu of flowers donations are asked to be sent to the Lone Pine High School FFA program, National Breast Cancer Foundation or the Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department. Please note that it is in memory of Linda Ayers.
