Bridgeport, CA— The Buckeye Fire, located five miles west of Bridgeport, is 100% contained at 1,045 acres in size. The fire management team has met all the objectives from the local forest. Since all of the objectives have been met, the management team will transition the Buckeye Fire back to the local forest at 4:30 p.m. today. For the next few days firefighters will focus on rehabbing the area and mopping up hot spots. Firefighters advise that you may see smoke in the area of the fire for the next few days. The crews have mopped up 300 feet all around the fire and the smoke you may see is in the center of the fire. No structures have been lost and no injuries have been reported.

The Buckeye Road (Forest Road 32017) between its junction with US-395 on the north and CA-420 (Twin Lakes Road) on the south will remain closed to the public for the next few days. The Buckeye Campground will also remain closed. Drivers are asked to use caution if having to travel on roadways near the fire as crews and apparatus are still actively working. On lookers are asked to stay out of the area for the safety of themselves and personnel.

For the next few days firefighters will buckeyefirefocus on rehabbing the area and mopping up hot spots. The management team advises that you could see smoke off the fire for the next few days. The crews moped up 300 feet all around the fire and the smoke you could see is in the center of the fire.  Firefighters have been faced with steep and rocky terrain making it a difficult fire to contain. No structures have been lost and no injuries have been reported.

Currently, there are road closures in the area of the fire.  Buckeye Road (Forest Road 32017) has been closed to the public between its junction with US-395 on the north and CA-420 (Twin Lakes Road) on the south.  The Buckeye Campground has also been evacuated. Drivers are asked to use caution if having to travel on roadways near the fire as crews and apparatus are still actively working. On lookers are asked to stay out of the area for the safety of themselves and personnel.

The lightning caused fire started on September 25, 2011 around 11 a. m. Approximately 211 personnel are working the 1,140 acres fire, including ground and air crews.
