Three top-level Inyo Sheriff’s Department officials, each with close to 30-year careers, will retire at the end of this year.
Inyo Sheriff Bill Lutze confirmed that Under Sheriff Jim Jones, Lieutenant Steve Rogers and Sergeant Paul Bedell will retire at the end of December. This leaves a large hole in the upper level of the Sheriff’s Department, but Sheriff Lutze said that currently he and others are interviewing current officers to fill the top spots with internal promotions.
Sheriff Lutze said he plans to go to the Board of Supervisors for authorization to fill these positions. This move will then leave vacancies in deputy positions. Sheriff Lutze said that his department already has candidates with background checks that he can hire.
So, a major changing of the guard at the Inyo Sheriff’s Office.
