Press release

The Mammoth Half Marathon & 5K scheduled for this Sunday, June 18 is a premier, one-of-a-kind race and event that celebrates the beauty and uniqueness of Mammoth Lakes.

The 5th Annual Mammoth Half Marathon carries runners over a breathtaking, scenic course through California’s picturesque High Sierra mountains and the Inyo National Forest. The route starts nearly 9,000 feet above sea level in the Lakes Basin and finishes in downtown Mammoth Lakes.

Due to the significant amount of snow remaining in the Lakes Basin, the start line of the half marathon has been moved from Horseshoe Lake to Lake Mary Road (adjacent to Pokonobe Lodge). Runners will still start on Lake Mary Road running 0.4 miles towards Horseshoe Lake before turning around and rejoining the original course. Please note that there is no public access to the Lakes Basin. ALL half marathon participants will be shuttled to the start line.

ROAD CLOSURES/DETOURS

Please watch for Mammoth Lakes Police Traffic Control  & CERT Teams, as they will be directing traffic during the event.  Road closures and detours will be in effect in the communities adjacent to the Lakes Basin (Lake Mary Road), Minaret Rd, Juniper Springs, and sections of Old Mammoth Road. If you plan to travel on race day, expect traffic delays when runners will be on the roads from 7:00am-11:30am. The bike path from Juniper Springs to downtown will also be used as part of the 5K and half marathon race routes. Detours will also be in place for participants or spectators traveling to the Mammoth Motocross.

The Mammoth Half Marathon is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with all net proceeds going towards community service projects and charities in Mammoth Lakes. Since 2013, the organization has raised tens of thousands of dollars for local causes and they look forward to continuing the tradition of giving back in the months and years to come.
