Inyo County Superintendent of Schools, George Lozito let it be known that he will retire at the end of the current school year. Lozito has served in his position for ten years with with new buildings and programs and sometimes controversies over school policies.

The County Board expressed appreciation for Lozito and their intent to fill the vacancy by conducting a statewide recruitment. They will retain Dr. Glen Thomas as an advisor in this recruitment.

The process will start in the new year with the hope to make an appointment of the new superintendent by April. The successful applicant will serve out the remainder of Mr. Lozito’s term which goes to the end of 2010. After that, the new superintendent would run for election.
