City of Bishop staff has a number of improvement projects planned for city streets. Like the Home Street project last year, the plan now is to repave the streets, build new sidewalks, gutters, and plant new trees. Projects on West Pine, North Third, Short, and Sneden Street will be delayed until 2010, but Public Works staff reports that they plan to get started on the South Second Street project in 2008.

A public meeting has been scheduled to discuss the South Second Street project, between Line and South Street, as well as North Third between Pine and Elm and a stretch of Short Street between Second and Third.

Trees to be replaced means that some trees are slated to be removed. On Short Street between South and Line the idea is to convert the street to a one way street with diagonal parking on one side.

The public meeting to discuss this project is scheduled for Thursday January 3 at 6:30 pm in the City of Bishop Conference room. The conference room is at City Hall, right through the south entrance at 301 West Line Street.

For more information or to make comments on the projects, call the Public Works Department at 873-8458 or stop by the office on West Line Street. You can also go to the City of Bishop website www.ca-bishop.us and look for the links to the public works department.
