A Saturday evening traffic stop in Bishop led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of a half pound of methamphetamine headed for local consumption.

Inyo Narcotic Enforcement officers report that at 8:44 pm Saturday night, Bishop Police made a vehicle stop on Main Street, near Highway 6. Officers say that the two men in the vehicle were both on probation out of the Los Angeles Area.

Officers called in the Highway Patrol K-9 unit to search for narcotics. The search turned up a hidden compartment that contained a small amount of marijuana, and about a half pound of methamphetamine, officers report. A loaded, stolen .38 Smith and Wesson revolver was also found in the vehicle, according to police. 25 year old Jorge Vasquez of North Hills and 24 year old Christopher Valdez of Thousand Oaks were arrested and transported to the Inyo County Jail. Bail was set at $250,000.

Officers say that the half pound of Methamphetamine was likely intended to be distributed locally. With the recent arrests in Chipmunk Canyon and Big Pine, this is the second half pound of methamphetamine seized in two weeks.
