The ongoing snowfall creates lots of challenges – like clearing off propane tanks and lines.

Local propane company officials reminded us to pass the word that customers can help assure deliveries by digging out tanks and access to tanks. Jim Miller of Turner Propane said that his crews can usually spend time to dig out a tank to refill it, but when the snow gets too deep it takes longer and deliveries start to back up.

Heavy snow creates safety issues too. Heavy snow can weigh down on gas lines and cause leaks. Mr. Miller also said that it’s important to keep regulators at the house and tank clear of ice to avoid a malfunction or a possible gas leak.

In rare situations, as in past years, propane can build up and cause explosions.

So, just a rough weather reminder.
