(CHP Press Release) On Tuesday April 15, 2014, at approximately 7:30 P.M., a California Highway Patrol officer, assigned to the Mammoth Lakes Resident Post, observed a red Toyota Scion traveling southbound on US-395, north of SR-203, at 100 miles per hour. Once behind the vehicle, the officer recognized it as a vehicle which had been contacted multiple times earlier in the day by allied law enforcement agencies for speeding violations.
The driver of the Toyota (later identified as Mr. Yeshayahu Dayan, age 28) continued driving in a reckless manner until he was eventually stopped on southbound US-395, south of the Vista Point (at the bottom of Sherwin Grade). Mr. Dayan was initially taken into custody for reckless driving. During the arrest, Mr. Dayan became uncooperative and was restrained with the assistance of Mono County Sheriff’s deputies. Once in custody, officers observed possible symptoms of drug intoxication. A blood sample was obtained and Mr. Dayan was medically cleared for incarceration.
Mr. Dayan was transported to the Mono County Jail in Bridgeport, California where he was booked for driving under the influence of drugs, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. After being booked, Mr. Dayan assaulted a jail correctional officer and two correctional officers were needed to control him. The injured correctional officer sought medical assistance. A felony assault charge has been added to list of charges being forwarded to the Mono County District Attorney’s Office.
How about we wait and see what the toxicology report reads.
Aggressive/retarded behavior=Meth head. Ever heard the Term MamMETH?
Come on, you sound like Wayne now. There are two sides to every story, three with your added charges.
Since when is north of SR-203 Sherwin Grade?
guess I was younger and didn’t pay attention ,or didn’t care about what was realy going on,not sure which is better
I remember the good ol days when the eastern sierras were peaceful, when did all the felons and soon to be prisoners decide mammoth is the place to be?
I remember the good old days and there was plenty of crime then. Inyo County claimed numerous murders.

A job would do most of these bored youth more good than our jail and prison system really does.
A 28 year old man is not a “youth”. By that point if you don’t know right from wrong you never will, or you just chose to do wrong. So someone drives 100 mph high on drugs and instead of convicting them and putting them in prison you propose to… Read more »
…..bored youth ?….this guy is 28 years old….and if this guy did all that he’s charged with, maybe you’d like to employ him….or work with him 40 hours a week……not me….maybe YOU should employ him….give him a key to your house and vehicle too while your at it.
Wayne, I would hire this kid and give him a chance? your stacking it on again with the keys and car mumbo jumbo.
they have been handing out speeding tickets at the bottom of the Sherwin Grade for the last eighty years. if you dont want to burn up your breaks you almost have to speed down it. i define that grade as a speed trap.
Waving the bs flag on you Trouble. Been up and down that grade too many times to know all you have to do is release the gas and a car will slow down. Pay attention to your speed instead of whining about the CHP doing their job. Don’t try blaming… Read more »
Desert Tortoise…that bs flag your waving at “Trouble”……it must be getting worn out from his comments the past month or so….
It is getting a little frayed, heh, heh, heh.
DT , iInyo and Mono are famous for their speed traps? you can say that their just doing their job all you want. I call it like I see it.
Tell it to the judge…
Charles, I think they should. in civil court.
Trouble….So you think citizens should take Law Enforcement Officers to CIVIL COURT if they happen to get caught speeding and feel it was done in a so-called “speed-trap” ?…I can see it now…in this case….this guy who (allegedly) was driving reckless, speeding,DUI,resisting arrest as well as in possession of drugs trying… Read more »
Read the vehicle code to find out the definition of a “speed trap”. Speed traps are not legal in California (probably the only state where that is the case and one of the reasons cops in this state cannot use a device called VASCAR), why traffic enforcement has to be… Read more »
Desert Tortoise….That’s some of what I’ve been saying to “Trouble”….if you think Law Enforcement is all big, bad, and tough down here in the Owens Valley,he should take an extended drive and stay in Oregon and see what it’s like….it’s obvious he hates LE about EVERYTHING they do….he’d have more reason… Read more »
Wayne , I know I’m good at throwing stones in the wrong directions , but you really are out of line to say i hate everything about law or anything else. i don’t hate. I happen to care, just not for your assumptions.
You’re not fooling anyone here Trouble. Whenever there is an article about someone being arrested you immediately criticize the police for making the arrest. It doesn’t matter what the crime is, it is always the police who are wrong, no arrest is ever justified in your opinion, at least the… Read more »
Troube…cruise control works on downhill grades,TOO. At least mine does, in a ’96 ford bronco. I got tagged on my FIRST trip down Sherwin grade back in 1977, and I never forgot it.
Ditto.
I use mine every time I descend Sherwin Grade. Works great.
You would think they just caught Dillinger or something special. I guess the cops win again. Sorry Wayne I lost my Pom Poms!
Cops win? You have an odd perspective, Trouble. The dude was high, driving 100 mph and had already been tapped earlier in the day for speeding. Fortunately the cops did their job and got this menace off of the road before he hurt somebody. As far as I’m concerned it… Read more »
Why are so sure it was pot, Wayne? There is no mention of finding paraphernalia or any odor coming from the vehicle.
Grrrrr…Story states “arrested for possession of marijuana”…..and since EVERYONE knows if you smoke weed or sell pot,you never, ever…….ever do any other type of dangerous drug….isn’t that what people try to say and spin it into smoking marijuana not only cures and prevents diseases, but also somehow keeps people from doing or… Read more »

Would a cop necessarily take him into custody the previous times if there had not been reckless driving involved? It takes three violations to have qualify, if that is the term, for a license suspension. Hard to say. We argue here that cops are too fast to arrest people without… Read more »
