With multiple feet of fresh snow already on the ground and more on the way, conditions at the ski resorts promise to be good this weekend.

With weather warnings so far in advance, the midweek has been pretty quiet, but Joani Lynch with Mammoth Mountain reports a very strong Martin Luther King weekend with skier visits up 10% over last year.

Monday was relatively quiet for a three day weekend, according to Lynch, likely because visitors wanted to get on the road before the storms arrived.

Lynch says that Mondays visitation dropped off from expectations, mostly due to the predications of the storm. I think a lot of guests hurried out of town Monday to make sure they could get home safely, she says.

Snow levels have been low, fluctuating around 5000 feet and below here in the Eastern Sierra. This has led to tough conditions to drive in, but good conditions for snow sports. Lynch says that the cold temperatures have kept the powder light and dry and she expects a great weekend, if conditions clear up as forecasters expect.
