(Bishop Police Press Release) On Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 0104 hours, the Bishop Police Department was requested by the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department to respond to a report of burglary alarm at 1375 Rocking W. Drive; Rite Aid. The Inyo County Sheriff’s Deputy assigned to the Bishop area was unable to respond as he was transporting an arrestee to the Inyo County Jail in Independence. Bishop Police Officers responded to Ride Aid and noticed a window had been smashed out in the front of the building. Officers cleared the building and determined no suspects were on scene and had fled to an unknown location. While officers secured the scene and were waiting for a responsible for Rite Aide, the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Police Department again at 2344 North Sierra Highway; Wave Rave for another burglary alarm.
At 0146 hours, Bishop Police Officers responded to the Wave Rave and encountered the front glass door of the business had been smashed and there was clothing all around the front of the building. The Bishop Police Department also requested the assistance of the California Highway Patrol to assist with the burglary. Bishop Police Officers were able to follow the trail of clothing to a nearby residence behind the Wave Rave where they saw several items from the Wave Rave shop around the front area of the residence and at least one subject inside. A perimeter was set around the residence and Officers awaited the arrival of Inyo County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives.
Based on initial investigation by Bishop Police Officers and evidence at the scene a search warrant was obtained by Inyo County Sheriff’s Detectives, Bishop Police Officers assisted with execution of the search warrant. Additional evidence linking several suspects to the crimes was located and several suspects were taken into custody.

We have a “serial thief” running amuke in the Lone Pine area too….but from the looks of things, and seeing his vehicle in the local impound yard, maybe the problem has been solved…hopefully….if it kept up,probably wouldn’t have ended too well for him if he were caught by one of the victims.
The sun will rise , with or without the police.
If you don’t have a police force then some other entity will step into the void. Instead of a police force answerable even indirectly to the electorate and the courts, you will have an armed mob of vigilantes acting as police, judge, jury and executioner or worse, organized crime will… Read more »
To Sugar Magnolia: First, You must not be very observant if you have not seen a deputy doing a traffic stop in forty years. Second, “if so many County Deputies weren’t out doing traffic stops during the day, would they have been able to respond sooner to the first call?”… Read more »
Tsk Tsk for the nasty tone Seriously! I guess I need to walk you through the obvious, rational thought process here. If the Deputies aren’t out all day doing traffic patrol, they could be on at evening and night time when more crimes are committed, ie. that would mean they… Read more »
sugar magnolia: you have a very valid point to have more than one deputy on at one time…you should take that point to the County Board of Supervisors on their Tuesday Nights open forum. Our communities need more deputies on-duty but the Board is the one who controls the $… Read more »
The BOS cannot direct the Sheriff to do anything. The Sheriff is an elected official who can tell the BOS to pack sand, and in many counties routinely do. The only people they answer to are the voters (and whomever finances their campaigns for sheriff). Next time the Sheriffs hold… Read more »
Yes, the Sheriff makes decisions for his department, however, where do you think the money comes from? Who is responsible for the dissemination of County Funds? That would be the BOS. He who has the money makes the rules. So the BOS AND the Sheriff would be a great place… Read more »
So did Sugar magnolia get a speeding ticket lately ??
Nope, had two in my whole life, one by a USFS Ranger and one by a CHP, both a long time ago.
I just have a problem with Sheriff’s Deputies spending their time this way. It’s very clear why they’re doing it, revenue generation!
Revenue generation? Really? So you have facts there is revenue generated from conducting traffic stops? Where does this supposed revenue go to? Or who?
So glad our LEOs got the bad guys…that’s the only way to keep crime down. Thanks Guys! I have to wonder, if so many County Deputies weren’t out doing traffic stops during the day, would they have been able to respond sooner to the first call? In my forty years… Read more »

The news media has been showing groups of kids raiding stores lately. I think Bishop just found their copy cat bandits. Maybe they can add stupid to the charges.
Exactly.
Leaving a trail of goods to the front door. This should be on the dumbest crimes show.
