Here’s a crime story in which the victim came up with clues and video surveillance sewed it up.

Mammoth Police said that they were called Saturday afternoon about credit card fraud. Officers said the victim told them she may have left her wallet at Base Camp Caf. She checked online and saw that her credit card was used at Wave Rave for a $900 snowboard. The victim called police, who examined video at both Base Camp and Wave Rave and saw the same female suspect.

The suspect had to return to pick up the purchased snowboard at Wave Rave. Meanwhile, police received another report of a fraudulent credit card purchase at Tonik. The suspect description was the same.

When the suspect return to Wave Rave to pick up the snowboard, police were there and arrested 28 year old Tracy Beth Hilton of Mammoth Lakes. The woman was booked at the Mono County jail on grand theft, burglary, possession of stolen property and credit card fraud.

Police point out that this is another case in which video surveillance helped solve the crime. All three businesses in this case had video surveillance. The Mammoth Police Department strongly encourages businesses to install video systems to prevent and solve crimes.
