Thanks to a decoy operation, Mammoth Police were able to arrest three people in connection with a string of stolen snowboards at Mammoth Mountain.

After receiving multiple reports of stolen snowboards near Little Eagle Lodge on December 30th, Mammoth Police left a decoy board in the area then stepped aside to watch.

Police report that officers later saw three subjects, 18 year old Jeffrey Key, 18 year old Riley Russo, along with a 17 year old juvenile, all from Laguna Niguel, looking at snowboards. When the suspects took a snowboard and left the area with it, officers report that they followed the three to a nearby hotel.

After contacting the three young men, officers report that they were able to recover seven stolen snowboards. All three were arrested. Russo and Key were taken to the Mono County Jail. The third suspect was taken to juvenile hall in Inyo County.
