(News Release – Town of Mammoth Lakes)
On Thursday, September 5, the Mammoth Lakes Town Council accepted the resignation of Town Manager Marianna Marysheva-Martinez. Ms. Marysheva-Martinez served the Town for 2 ½ years as Interim Town Manager, Assistant Town Manager, and Town Manager. She was instrumental in guiding the Town Council through the bankruptcy filing in 2012, the mediation and settlement of the Mammoth Lakes Land Acquisition (MLLA) lawsuit, and restructuring of the budget necessitated by the lawsuit settlement.
Mayor Rick Wood said, “The Town Council appreciates the hard work and dedication that Marianna provided during these challenging times. Her budget experience was extremely valuable and helped the Council come to the best resolution for the Town. We wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
A search for an Interim Town Manager has begun and it is hoped that a person will be selected and in place shortly. Until then, Police Chief Dan Watson is serving as the Acting Town Manager.
Once an Interim Town Manager is hired, a search for a permanent Town Manager will commence. The selection process will include community input.
The bigger question should be; who thought it would be ok to appoint Tom Cage? It now seems the council is pretending that was never the plan, though it clearly was…that is, until opposition arose to the point that it clearly became a political liability.
Very good perspective and that’s the issue. The community needs to move on from the MMM and focus on moving forward – but not with two Council Members who are not trustworthy, personal agendas, and were finally exposed as to who they really are. A large and growing (perhaps majority)… Read more »
Well, their next move will probably be to fill the vacant department head positions with their friends before they hire a new sucker (whoops! Town Manager) so they will have their way no matter what happens with the “open and transparent” Town Manager position. I’m not one for consultants, but… Read more »
3 in favor were Wood, Eastman & Bacon, 2 no were Lehman & Raimondo. Wood will confirm as he already has around town, this is no rumor.
Benett–
Time to get on the record which council members were for ousting MMM. I heard that it is public record (i.e., accessible) who agendized, or requested agendizing, each of the special town council meetings where ouster discussions were held. Perhaps you can get this info and share the results.
I’ll see what I can find out. Any actions taken in closed session must be reported out in public.

I have lost confidence in this council to be honest and forthright at this point. Why not just pick from a hat? Public input? LOL……
“Once an Interim Town Manager is hired, a search for a permanent Town Manager will commence. The selection process will include community input.”
Really? That would be a first.

Who remembers the “Community Survey” that went out during the bankruptcy/mediation? What a joke that was. The Council’s concept of “community” includes themselves and the dozen well-connected local citizens whispering in their ears behind the scenes. Welcome to Mammoth Lakes, where we never learn from our mistakes.
