No big crowds have rushed forward to sit on the Mammoth Town Council. Only two candidates filed for two seats available in the June election. The Town Council will consider a direct appointment of the candidates when they meet March 21st.
Faced with the enormous $42 million lawsuit judgment debt and ongoing town budget problems, the community shied away from public office for a change. In the past as many as three or four people have tried for one Town Council seat. Politics has lost its sheen in Mammoth Lakes.
Wednesday at 5pm marked the deadline to file for the Town Council election. The two candidates are Jo Bacon and Michael Raimondo. Town Clerk Jamie Gray sent out a press release to say that because only two candidates filed for two seats, the Town Council can, by election code, appoint the candidates rather than holding an election on June 5th.
Clerk Gray said that at its regular meeting on March 21st, the Town Council will consider whether to make the appointments or direct an election to be held. She said that if the candidates are appointed, they shall qualify and take office.
Long time Councilman Skip Harvey had decided on the filing deadline not to seek re-election. So, it looks like Jo Bacon and Michael Raimondo will take seats on the Council and forge ahead with the dire decisions to handle what looks to the public like nearly insurmountable money problems.
Wow, another four years of taxpayer paid health, vision, and dental benefits for Mayor Bacon and her cohorts. You think Bacon, Wood and others would have the “you know what” to pay for their own benefits and use the taxpayer funds for other Town purposes i.e. $42 million judgement? How… Read more »
Hey truthbhold,
If you’re so bitchen and smart, why don’t you step up to the plate & run for council????
I know you’d rather just bag on everybody !!!!
If I ever ran, I can assure you my platform would be to expose the incessant hypocrisy, bring honesty and dignity to the dais, respect all citizenry, and pay for my own benefits.
When it’s “rosy” everyone wants a piece and claim credit. I would think that all the talking heads in Mammoth should be rushing towards this election because if the comment section on this website is any indication of opinions on the debt of the TOML then there should be at… Read more »
