main_st._bishopInyo County unemployment continues to range just below one in ten people out of work, while Mono County remains higher, but still below the state average for unemployment.

On Friday, state officials released the unemployment numbers for July. Across California the unemployment rate remained unchanged from June at 12.3%. Nationwide, unemployment remains at 9.5%, also unchanged from June.

In Inyo County, unemployment continues to hang around at just under one in ten people looking for work. The June unemployment rate for Inyo County was listed at 9.3%. This rose a bit in July to 9.5% and is slightly higher than the 9.2% unemployment listed in July of 2009. This current Inyo rate matches the national unemployment rate of 9.5%, but remains below the state average. For Inyo County, 9.5% represents 930 people out of work and still looking.

In Mono County, which had the lowest unemployment in the state for much of the ski season last winter, the state lists the July unemployment rate at 10.6%. This is down from the 11.5% unemployment listed for June, and higher than the 9.8% listed for July of 2009.

These numbers reflect people out of work and looking for work. The state doesnt list those that have taken pay cuts and furloughs and those that are working part time in the Eastern Sierra. Across California, the state calculates that 9% of people with jobs are working part time when they would rather work full time.
