US 395

BISHOP — California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) have reopened U.S. 395 from the previous closure due to a brush fire that began near Chris Flat campground.

  • U.S 395 North and South from Bridgeport, CA to the Nevada State Line is now open to normal traffic. Caltrans has cleared the U.S. 395 of debris and rocks, and it is now passable.

Chris Fire Update, Nov. 14, 10:45 a.m.

Bridgeport, CA., Nov. 14, 2017 – The Chris Fire was started by a vehicle accident around 11:28 a.m. on Nov. 13 west of U.S. Route 395, about five miles north of Sonora Junction near the Chris Flat Campground. The fire is burning in very steep terrain in grass, sagebrush, and timber. High winds caused the fire to grow to 370 acres.

Access to California State Route 108 is available for Northbound Highway 395 travelers, as well as access to Walker, California, for Southbound Highway 395 travelers. Large trucks will not have access and must use detours. Ten handcrews, 14 engines, one dozer, one air attack and four helicopters are working to suppress the fire today. There are a number of cooperating agencies who have provided resources for the firefighting effort including the U.S. Forest Service, California Division of Forestry (Cal Fire), Nevada Division of Forestry, Bureau of Land Management, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Antelope Valley Fire Department, East Fork Fire Protection District, Carson City Fire Department, Sparks Fire Department, Mono County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, Nevada Highway Patrol, California Department of Transportation, Nevada Department of Transportation.

Tioga Pass

BISHOP— The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has closed the lower gate on State Route 120 West (Tioga Pass) to the Yosemite National Park entrance gate today, Tuesday, November 14th at 11:00 a.m. due to incoming inclement weather. This closure is in conjunction with the closure of the Yosemite National Park gate also closed at 11:00 a.m.

The partial reopening of SR 120 West is dependent upon favorable weather.  Please check local highway conditions before planning to use SR 120 West.

Lakes Basin Road

The Lakes Basin Rd. and the Old Mammoth Rd. to Lakes Basin will close Wednesday, November 15, at 3:00 p.m. in advance of the storm in the forecast. Managers will evaluate the condition of the road after the storm.
