Expansion construction at the Mammoth Lakes Vons is underway. Some spokesmen said that the plan is to have the $4.5 million project finished this summer.
Vons Real Estate Vice President Brian Braaten had told Sierra Wave Media that the new plans will move the Vons Pharmacy to the adjacent mall and double it in size. He said Starbucks will move to the mall space and nearly double in size.
Braaten said that the former Elegant Bath space and planter in the middle of the mall will make way for the pharmacy and Starbucks with lots of extra setting. He said that the expansion will “breathe life into the mall area.” He said the changes have been a long time coming.
Braaten also said that in addition to the expansion, Vons will renovate the current store. He said the deli will undergo expansion and other changes will unfold in the additional space created by moving the pharmacy and Starbucks.
The plans also include what Braaten called a significant facelift on the exterior. He described the look as similar to the stores in Lake Tahoe and Bend, Oregon. He said that the new construction will give a better impression to visitors. Town Offices in the area will remain where they are with some changes in the outside appearance.

I’ve heard Von leases property in Bishop just to keep competition out. That is pure greed.
it’s a hec of deal for the property owner though..
The way I understand it is…Vons owns the 2 properties that used to be their Safeway stores years ago and they will not lease to competitors but do lease to other businesses…Value Sports and Golden State Cycle etc. K-Mart does the same thing but hasn’t filled their vacant spot. Can’t… Read more »
We do need some serious competition!
Really Vons? If you want to make a Better impression with your consumers, try pricing your groceries fair. Guess who’s paying for this Ridiculous $ 4.5 Remodel.
Instead of $4.5 million remodel project, why not just make your prices a bit easier to swallow. Really Vons ?
