areas of The Portal which includes the Whitney Portal (family and group) and Whitney Portal
Trailhead Campgrounds, recreation residences, and the Whitney Portal Store. It also affects the
spigots at the overflow and hiker parking lot.

The cause of the contamination is yet unknown and therefore cannot be corrected. Right now, we have no information on when the water system is expected to return to service. Due to this affecting all of the potable water in the Portal, the U.S. Forest Service advises visitors to the area are to bring water while recreating in Whitney Portal. Along with the high temps we have been experiencing, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring plenty of water. And don’t forget to pack extra water for any pets that are coming with you.
