The heaviest storm so far this winter left feet of snow, hopes for a good holiday, and five feet of snow on Mammoth Mountain since last Thursday. The stormy weather caused some problems, too.tree_down

Saturday night, strong winds along with frozen snow took down a power line when a tree blew over in Mammoth Lakes. The nasty weather continued but power to a number of places in Mammoth didn’t. Power went out at Whiskey Creek and surrounding neighborhoods.

The temporary flasher lights at the intersection of Main and Minaret also went out and police had to conduct traffic control until Caltrans could get some stop signs to turn the intersection into a four-way stop. Police said trees fell on cars in Mammoth, causing damage on private property.

Street conditions were slick all over the Eastern Sierra. Inyo County reported numerous spin-outs Saturday as the snow fell on the Valley floor. Traffic issues topped Inyo’s list of weather-related issues. The scenes around Bishop and the Owens Valley offered a very rare site of snow covered streets and fields.
