28th Lone Pine Film Festival
Featuring gripping tales in which good always triumphs over evil,
Western movies have had a major role in influencing the behavior and ideology of our nation. This year’s 28th Annual Lone Pine Film Festival will explore this far-reaching topic via movie screenings, presentations, movie site tours, panel discussions and more at the Museum of Western Film History Oct. 6 through 8.
TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz returns this year to host our Saturday evening keynote program featuring a discussion with author Scott Eyman, whose new book explores the 50-year friendship between Henry Fonda and James Stewart, along with a screening of their 1970 film “The Cheyenne Social Club.”
Other presentations include:
  • A screening of the 1960 film “Sergeant Rutledge,” followed by a discussion led by Bob Boze Bell, editor and publisher of True West, about how director John Ford dealt with racism;
  • The Image of the American Cowboy: John Wayne and John Ford;
  • Top 10 Opening Scenes of Western Movies;
  • Guns and Guitars: The Singing Cowboys of Lone Pine;
  • A stunt panel with Diamond Farnsworth;
  • Screening of “Nevada” (1944) to celebrate Robert Mitchum 100 Years, and Ed Hulse interviews actor/director William Wellman Jr., who knew Mitchum well. Learn more about the movies Bob made and his 54-year career in Hollywood

For early birds arriving Thursday, check out our Members’ Reception on Thursday evening ($10 for members/ $20 non-members), and a special screening at 7 pm of “FLOATING HORSES: The Life of Casey Tibbs”(registered button holders only.)
