In the past year, Mammoth Hospital has seen Chief Financial Officers come and go. Today, officials announced the arrival of a new CFO, Melanie Van Winkle.mammoth-hospital-entrance

CFO James Hughey lasted for a short period of time, then Jo Convis with the Camden Group consultants has filled in since Hughey resigned last August. After Hughey, another man was hired, David Rollins. But he backed out and took another job in Oregon.

The new CFO comes to Mammoth with 22 years of financial experience in health care. She last worked at Valley Health System in Hemet as Vice President of Finance.

Officials said that Van Winkle literally stumbled on Mammoth Hospital during a walk with her family while camping close by. Mammoth Hospital officials said Van Winkle has wanted to live and work in a smaller community and had always thought mammoth would be a great place to live. After her vacation, Van Winkle applied for the CFO position.

Officials said Van Winkle will now learn all she can about the hospital’s revenue cycle, financial improvement opportunities and preparation for the 2011 fiscal year budget. Jo Convis will help Van Winkle with these issues.

Mammoth Hospital does have a history of billing and collection problems. According to hospital officials Van Winkle’s work philosophy is to “help people to be successful in their own positions by bridging communication gaps and asking questions to find the root of a potential problem.” This philosophy may plug into Mammoth’s ongoing issues.

Van Winkle’s husband Eric owns his own small business. He is a volunteer firefighter for Mammoth. Their youngest son attends Mammoth Elementary with three other children in college.
