In October, Almaguer appeared in Mammoth Court via video-conferencing.

Long-time day care provider in Mammoth Lakes, 56-year-old Lupe Almaguer, sits in the Mono County Jail on two counts of Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a Child under 14. Almaguer entered not guilty pleas to those charges, and he now will appear in court in Bridgeport next Tuesday for a pre-trial status conference.

Authorities remain closed mouth about this sensitive case. Dozens of Mammoth parents have hired Almaguer to care for their children over the past 20 years. DA Investigator Wayne McCammond had earlier said that all involved are “moving as quickly as they can with the victims and the due process of the defendant in mind.”

The original press release from the Mammoth Police Chief on this case alleged that Almaguer had committed sexual abuse crimes on two children in his care who are now adults.

Inyo Judge Dean Stout was appointed to hear this case. Mono Judge Stan Eller recused himself. In mid-October, Judge Stout sat on an appearance by Almaguer via video-conferencing from Stout had issued orders that the defendant not contact the alleged victims by any means. The Judge also maintained Mr. Almaguer’s bail at $500,000.

Officials have said the investigation into this case continues with a Bridgeport court appearance scheduled for Tuesday, November 16th.
