treedownThis downed tree served as testimony to repeated rain in Bishop and then high winds Wednesday night. This tree uprooted at a home on Wildrose Lane in west Bishop. It crashed down onto a pick-up truck. There were no injuries reported but considerable property damage.

Forecasters said that an arctic front, which brought with it high wind, whipped through the Eastern Sierra and was expected to calm down Thursday into Friday.

Winds had also created white-out conditions which led to the temporary closure of Highway 395 between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes. Several cars collided and slid off the roadway.
