On September 14th, at about 1:30AM, Sheriff’s Dispatch was notified of a physical altercation at Statham Hall in Lone Pine. According to the reporting party, there had been a birthday party that evening and the suspect (Julio Becerra a 28 year old man from Lone Pine) had become increasingly aggressive. Inyo County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with the assistance from California Highway Patrol, were dispatched to the scene.
Interviews with witnesses indicated that an argument took place outside Statham Hall between Becerra and another male subject; the argument resulted in Becerra taking a machete out of his vehicle and brandishing it in a threatening manner. Two male subjects attempted to grab hold of Becerra from behind to avoid being hit by the machete. Becerra swung the machete behind him, striking one of the male subjects in the shoulder. Becerra fled the scene only to return shortly afterwards.
When Becerra arrived back at the scene, a verbal altercation immediately commenced between Becerra and the girlfriend of the male subject who was initially injured by the machete. The altercation escalated which resulted in Becerra choking the female. Becerra was pulled off the female by bystanders, and again fled the scene.
Becerra was later located at his residence in Lone Pine and arrested without incident. He is currently being held under (felony) assault with a deadly weapon charge; his bail has been set at $25,000. The female victim declined treatment. The male victim was treated at the scene and declined further medical evaluation.
‘sugarmags’ Im guessing you think these two idiots were bailed out? Oh No… They were let out on their ‘OR’ or ‘Own Recognizance’ . They are such upstanding citizens, that the judge decided to let them out and promise to appear at their hearing. Both of these upstanding citizens have… Read more »
Indy, I’m not sure what part of ‘due process’ you don’t understand. The people you reference have been arrested and charged with a crime (or more). They won’t be sentenced as punishment until they are convicted of a crime. Until then, they are free. Bail was designed to ensure (in… Read more »

Aggressive Progressive: “…because it is law enforcement that has the monopoly on violence…”. Really? This statement offends me and does disservice to those LE personnel who DO protect and serve. All due respect chris, please allow me to further explain myself; How can you argue with that fact? YES! Law enforcement/Corrections/Security has a monopoly on violence, well I guess the state ultimately holds the true power and “monopoly on violence”, but those within law enforcement are given the tools and… Read more »

Wayne, I hear you on Obama being blamed for everything, and a lot of it is senseless. What I blame Obama for is, fooling the voters that voted for him, that he was going to get us out of war, but it doesn’t seem like the USA is going to… Read more »

I am asking people to withhold judgment without firsthand knowledge of what happened. BK
I always carry bear spray, for situations just like this. No machete-wielding thug will EVER get close enough to me to choke me.
