Hantavirus virus

Hantavirus virus

According to an article in The Conversation (a network of not-for-profit media outlets that publish news stories written by academics and researchers) viruses are the most common biological entities on Earth. Experts estimate there are around 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 of them, and if they were all lined up they would stretch from one side of the galaxy to the other.

Sure, it’s cute, but being around deer mice, may not be a good thing for your health.

While that certainly does not sound good, obviously, not all viruses are a dire threat to humanity. And while not in the same league as the coronavirus, hantavirus is still with us here in the Eastern Sierra, but it has very different symptoms and transmission of contagion than the coronavirus.

This message from the Mono County Public Health Department is a timely reminder as the weather continues to warm and many people start “spring cleaning.” often in enclosed areas where deer mice like to live.  A few simple precautions can protect you from the virus.
