As promised, snow hit hard today. The heaviest weather blew into Mono County with wet, heavy snowfall causing two big rigs to veer off the highway. In one case, the truck jackknifed around Deadman’s Curve between Mammoth Lakes and June Lake. Shortly after these incidents, the CHP and Caltrans quickly took steps to close 395 to big rigs only between Bishop and Bridgeport.

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area sent out satellite shots when the snow was dumping. The Mountain said at 2:30, they had received more than a new foot of snow with the storms expected to continue through Thursday.

Some forecasters are calling for a total of 4 new feet of snow for the upper elevations. The Owens Valley did get rained on today with more expected. Bob Todd will have all of the latest weather predictions for our region later in the newscast.

R1 chain controls went down on 395 north of Bishop to June Lake, Bishop to Aspendell and R2 in Mammoth Lakes. Conditions are changing so check with us or Caltrans before traveling. (Caltrans 1-800-GAS ROAD).

Stay tuned to KSRW FM for updated road conditions.
