SEGMENT 4 BISHOP FOOTBALLThe Bishop Union Bronco varsity football team won Saturday’s home playoff game against the Orosi Cardinals by a score of 34-7. This game was part of the 2019 Central Section CIF Football Championships – Division 6 Football tournament.
The 2019 Broncos join the 1957 and 2010 teams as CIF Champions. Despite the snow and the cold weather, the stands at John Schwab field were packed with enthusiastic fans to watch the top seeded Broncos defeat the number 3 ranked Orosi Cardinals  Saturday night and win the CIF section championship.

The Broncos now advance to state championship. This will be the schools first trip to the State football playoffs. Saturday night the Broncos opened a 13-0 halftime lead on touchdowns runs by Luke McClean and Steven Paco. McClean then connected with Joe Weaver on a 32 yard touchdown pass on the opening drive of the second half. Joey Molina ran in the two point conversion making the score 21-0. McClean and Jon Torres added second half touchdown runs capping the scoring. The Bronco defense held Orosi to just 7 points. Seniors Jaydan Braithwaite and Darren Dondero both had 1st half interceptions.
Sophomore middle linebacker Kennedy Batchelder added 8 solo tackles to his season total making him the top tackler in CIF division 6. Batchelder also had one and a half sacks Saturday night. Players of the game. Overall. Luke McClean Senior completed 8 of 10 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. Rushed 21 times for 141 yards and two scores. Defensively, Luke made 7 solo tackles and helped lead the defense in holding the #1 scoring team in the division to 7 points. Offensively, Joe Weaver Junior caught 4 passes for 79 yards including a 32 yard touchdown on the opening drive of the second half. Weaver also had an amazing night on defense, he had a team high 5 pass breakups, a season high. Defense. Tristan Valle Senior made 5 solo tackles including a quarterback sack. Special Teams. Carson Evangelist Junior made two solo tackles and an assist while playing on every special teams unit.

Congratulations to the coaching staff including head coach Arnie Pahlu, the trainers, the players, and everyone who have contributed to the outstanding 2019 Bishop Union Bronco season.  But, the season is not over yet.  There is still one more game to be played.

The Bishop Broncos have a bye next week and  will play the winner of DIVISION 6–A North: Salesian, Richmond (11-2) at Santa Cruz (10-3) – Saturday, Dec. 7 at 6:00 p.m. This championship game will take place on Saturday December 14th at 6:00 in the CIF State Bowl game with location to be determined.
