Amid reports of unacceptable acts and behavior on a recent road trip, the Bishop Union High School boys junior varsity baseball team has been disbanded for the 2019 season.

Rumors have swirled in recent days about the bus ride and events in a motel room when the Broncos participated in the two-day Yerington Tournament earlier this month. Some of the alleged sexual misconduct was videoed and uploaded to social media accounts, according to unconfirmed reports.
Several sources say one player was, at one point, held down against his will.
School officials are limited in what information can be released, with minors and personnel matters involved.
Stacy Van Nest, athletic director at Bishop Union High, emailed this statement:
“I regret to inform you that due to athletic suspensions, I have no choice but to collapse my JV baseball team. I apologize, but I need to cancel all remaining games. This is for the junior varsity baseball team only.
“Unfortunately, the actions of a few have shortened the season for the rest. However, at Bishop Union High School we prioritize holding our athletes to a high standard as it is a privilege to participate in athletics, not a right.”
Bishop Unified School District is on spring break this week. A call has been made to Bishop High principal Randy Cook, who was out of the office today.
Sources say the state of Nevada has or will file charges, and there was also information about a threatened lawsuit against Bishop Unified School District.

High school sports are a waste of time and taxes.
This happened to the girls soccer team a few years ago, however, this situation is much more serious. Whomever was in the rooms where the events took place, or was aware of the events and didn’t not take corrective measures, and whomever shared the event all need to be held… Read more »

That would be the correct action but unfortunately you can’t play ball with half a team.
Do chaperones accompany school sports teams when on the road?
No, They just let the 14 and 15 year old kids drive themselves hundreds of miles and figure out their own lodging and food….
I see “Tinners’ point asking about a chaperone….in this day and age,a lot more to being a TRUE chaperone for a bunch of teen-agers than just a bus driver,or someone planning out meals and lodging for an overnight sports or field trip…in case you haven’t noticed,and as this story atests… Read more »
Sports are sometimes the motivation for some students to stay in school, so I’m always sorry to see a program cancelled due to the actions of some. I believe in holding people accountable for their actions, but support finding ways to do it that doesn’t involve ending sports programs.
