In early December, Inyo Sheriff’s men said that 17-year-old Edward Keller, Jr. of Bishop confessed to the murder of 29-year-old James Williams on November 26th. Keller is now scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 1st.

It was during the Thanksgiving holiday that Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance on Barlow Lane. Officers ssaid they found a man with a head wound and another man passed out beside him. At first, another man was arrested as a suspect in the murder of James Williams. In a matter of days, deputies said they interviewed Keller who was then charged with the homicide.

Although Keller is a juvenile and remains in custody at Juvenile Hall in Independence, he will be tried as an adult for the murder of Williams.

A private attorney from the Fair Oaks-Sacramento area, Nathan DelCampo, had taken Keller’s case.

This murder case, on top of an earlier homicide, prompted members of the Paiute Tribe to call for community meetings to talk about violence and its causes. At least one meeting was held.
