At close to 2:00 this afternoon, the Bishop Volunteers were called out to a brush fire burning in the fields between See Vee and Home Street. When the firefighters arrived on scene they found a small fire, about 50 feet square burning in trees and brush.

Light winds quickly spread the fire as flames lit up a few trees. The Firefighters went to work, driving their trucks close to get water on the blaze. The volunteers had slowed the fire when the wildland fire fighters from the forest service and CDF arrived to help control the flames.

Despite the winds and red flag conditions, Bishop Fire Chief Ray Seguine reports that the fire was contained at an acre and a half.

This fire was burning very close the trail that connects Diaz with the Elementary School. With school letting out just after the fire started, the trail home was blocked off and children advised to take the bus home.

Chief Seguine reports that the fire was caused by an escaped warming fire.
