The mystery around a shooting in Cartago lingers this week. It was last week that Inyo Sheriff’s investigators confirmed that a 38-year-old Auburn, California, man had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Now, investigators say only that when their inyo_county_jailinvestigation is done, the case will go to the District Attorney for a disposition.

It was last Tuesday that a Sheriff’s Dispatcher received a call of a shooting in Cartago. At that point, officers said they had a suspect in custody but had made no arrest. Later,
Officers said that the gunshot victim was flown out to Loma Linda hospital. Another man, 58 years old, from Maricopa, was transported to Southern Inyo Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Officers questioned and released that man.

It’s unknown just what sparked the shooting. Officers did say that there was “an altercation in which one person shot another person.

In the latest press release, it was reported that everyone involved in the shooting incident has been identified and contacted. The release also says, “Upon completion of the investigation by the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department, the case will be referred to the Inyo County District Attorney’s office for a disposition.”
